Yoko Ono says she's still afraid of John Lennon's killer

John Lennon was assassinated over 30 years ago, and Yoko Ono is still afraid of his killer, Mark David Chapman.

In a revealing interview with the Daily Beast Ono was asked if she feared for her life after Lennon’s death. “I was concerned, yes,” she said. “At the time, they could have done it, too. I was really lucky that I didn’t die with John. If that had happened, what would have happened to [their son] Sean?”

Last year, Chapman was denied parole for the eighth time, and Ono has publicly opposed every parole bid he’s had since his sentencing. “I’m super-careful, almost like a certain animal who is used to being hunted, like a deer,” she told the Daily Beast. “So when I go out or when I don’t go out, in my apartment, I’m very, very careful. It’s very, very difficult for me to think about Chapman, especially because he doesn’t seem to think that was a bad thing to do. It’s crazy.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Ono addresses rumors of Lennon’s bisexuality. When asked if he had sex with other men, she said, “I think he had a desire to, but I think he was too inhibited.”

As far as her own work, Ono will be given the Icon Award at the British Attitude Awards Wednesday, in recognition of her emblematic art. Her next album, a follow-up to 2007’s Yes I’m A Witch, is due out Jan. 22, 2016, and will feature collaborations with artists like Death Cab For Cutie and Miike Snow.
