A memorial for surfing pioneer Terry “Tubesteak” Tracy will begin at 3 p.m. Sept. 14 at Doheny State Beach in Dana Point, his family announced Wednesday.
Tracy, who died Aug. 22 at his San Clemente home, was among the early surfers at Malibu and helped inspire the novel “Gidget,” which led to a 1959 movie that thrust surfing into the national culture.
Tracy’s daughter Jennifer said Doheny State Beach and the Doheny Longboard Surfing Association are helping to put together the celebration of his life.
